Desegregation and the Busing System
Op-Ed
Thursday, 12 November 2009 02:44
Desegregation busing has been going on between Hartford and its suburbs since the 1960’s. The program was originally labeled as Project Concern; today the program is known as the Open Choice Program, which is one of several programs run by the Capitol Region Education Council with the purpose of providing better education for inner city students and suburban students, which aim to also create less segregated education systems.

Teens Drinking and Driving
Op-Ed

A few weeks ago, during a commercial break in between The Office, I saw a commercial telling viewers to stick around after The Office to catch the NBC news at eleven. The anchor said, “A drunk driving incident kills two teens today when their car goes off road. Details tonight at eleven.” As terrible as it sounds, when I heard this I was not surprised. It is just all too often that you hear about another accident that has left a teen(s) hurt or killed. With all of these new driving rules put in effect to prevent incidents like these, it makes you wonder, why does this keep happening so often?

Overkill? There's an app for that
Op-Ed
Thursday, 05 November 2009 15:04
We’ve all seen the commercials. The apps for the iPhone are supposed to be useful tools to help us with our everyday lives. In June of 2009, the apps store on iTunes reached over 50,000 available applications to buy. So are they all useful, or is there a considerable overkill to the number of apps we can download? While it’s true, some of these apps are ingenious and really can help us as we go about our tasks, but the fact is, most of them are a complete and utter waste of time.

Teens and Internet Addiction
Op-Ed
Thursday, 05 November 2009 14:59

Some people don’t believe that internet addiction is a serious problem. I believe that internet addiction is just as big of a problem as a drug or alcohol addiction. Many teens are addicted and just don’t realize it. It has serious consequences just like drugs and alcohol have too. In today’s world people have so much access to the internet through thins like Blackberry’s and iPhones in addition to computers and lap-tops. People are constantly checking their emails, Facebooks, and Twitters.

Cafe study cancellation
Op-Ed
Monday, 05 October 2009 18:55

There have been several changes made this year at Wethersfield High School, such as a few new staff members, the new tardy policy, and the new cafeteria set up (which many students have said to be confusing and unorganized). However, probably the most significant change that many students noticed, and are really upset about, is the cancellation of cafe study. For those of you who are new this year, café study was for juniors and seniors for many years to have the privilege of having study hall in the cafeteria rather than having it in a normal classroom. Because of a small population of the student body who constantly skipped their class and went to the cafeteria and lower classmen who went to the cafeteria and weren’t supposed to be, that privilege has now been taken away and the entire student body must suffer the consequences- is this fair?
