Wethersfield High School’s Football team has had a fairly successful season with a current record of 4 wins and 3 losses and is currently in third in CCC Division III. The start of the season was very difficult for the team. The team used to play inner city teams in past years; however, with the new changes to the conference they are playing teams that are further away and unfamiliar to them. The new conference has created much more difficult competition. The season started off with three tough losses to Berlin, Platt, and Rocky Hill despite an incredible performance by the team in their win versus Tolland. WHS Football has bounced back with three straight wins against Hall, Bristol Eastern, and Weaver. The team faces a difficult schedule, however, with games against division rival Northwest Catholic, E.O. Smith, and Newington. Coach John Campenello says he is very proud of the new players this season. "This year we were just looking to improve," says senior Andre Stanford. They certainly have as they have a shot at states. There ultimate goal is to make states and to beat Newington in the annual Thanksgiving Day game. Coach Campanello says that if, "[We] stay together as a team and care about each other, then we will come closer to achieving our goal." The Thanksgiving Day game will be held on Thanksgiving at Wethersfield High School’s Cottone Field at 10 A.M.

The new conference has created much more difficult competition. Coach John Campenello says he is very proud of the new players this season. Their goal on offense is to score more points and to strengthen their defense to create more turnovers. "This year we were just looking to improve," says senior Andre Stanford, "Like every team the football players have their own goals." But most importantly, "Stay together as a team, care about each other and we will achieve our goal," says Coach Campanello.
